Span Alaska began 31 years ago, as a vision from one of the most
respected people in the industry.
Ray Landry's legend lives on.
Ray Landry was an icon in the Alaskan freight business even before
he formed Span Alaska Consolidators in 1978. With 30 years of experience with
the major players in the industry, he applied all his knowledge and insight to
launching and developing the kind of company he knew would best serve Alaskan
customers. And he succeeded.
Landry started from humble beginnings and steadily built his
one-man operation into one of the largest freight companies serving Alaska
today. He worked hard. He served his clients with integrity and respect. And he
surrounded himself with others who did the same.
By the time Landry retired in 1990, he'd built a strong management
group that shared his sense of integrity, work ethic, and knowledge of the
Alaskan freight industry. Today, over 19 years later, this entire management
group is still intact and still active in the day-to-day operation of the
business. Each member averages over 25 years with the company.
The results are impressive. Span Alaska and its subsidiaries now
ship over 200 million pounds of freight annually to Alaska, employ over 100
people and own more than 150 pieces of rolling equipment. In addition to its
vast volume of shipments from the Lower 48 to Southcentral Alaska, the company
also offers overnight service from Anchorage to both Fairbanks and the Kenai
Peninsula, and provides LTL (less than truckload) service via barge from
Seattle to Southeast Alaska.
Led by the next generation of Landrys, with
Mike Landry at the helm, Span Alaska continues to invest in the
future. The company is constantly adding new equipment, upgrading
its computer technologies, and most importantly, hiring employees
who embody the company's formula for success and customer
satisfaction: experience, integrity, and loyalty.
