Decades of Dependable Delivery Across Alaska

Service, commitment, and investment that help our customers—and Alaska—grow.

How It All Began

Span Alaska was founded in 1978 by Ray Landry, a seasoned logistics professional who saw Alaska not just as a destination, but as a calling. After decades of industry experience, Ray understood what it would take to connect the Lower 48 with businesses and remote communities across Alaska. With a focus on doing things the right way—through consistency, integrity, and a relentless commitment to customer service—he built Span Alaska to support the people and businesses who make Alaska work.

Over the past 45+ years, Span Alaska has led the way with innovations tailored to Alaska’s needs: direct loading to Service Centers, day-definite delivery windows, and temperature-controlled solutions for food, beverage, and medical supplies. With our Destination Direct™ model, shipments move directly from Auburn to our strategically placed Service Centers, minimizing handling and keeping schedules on track.

Through investments in company-owned Service Centers, a modern fleet, and cold-chain infrastructure, we’ve built a delivery network that keeps shelves stocked and projects moving—no matter the season.

Today, Span Alaska operates as a wholly owned subsidiary under Matson Logistics. We maintain control over our service model, equipment, and operations—delivering reliability, transparency, and accountability from origin to delivery. Our technology investments, including driver handhelds that offer real-time tracking and electronic proof of delivery (ePOD), reflect our commitment to accuracy and customer experience.
